Power Supply and Electrical Interface

Optical modules typically receive power via a hot-pluggable electrical interface that connects to the host system, such as a switch or router card . The supplied voltage is regulated internally to power the Transmitter Optical Sub-Assembly (TOSA), Receiver Optical Sub-Assembly (ROSA), and associated functional circuits . Common supply voltages for small form-factor modules like SFP, SFP+, and QSFP+ are 3.3V or 5V, while higher-power modules may require additional voltage rails for driver circuits .

Internal Power Management

Inside the module, driver chips process the input electrical signals and control the laser diode (LD) or LED in the TOSA to emit modulated optical signals .
