In Multisim, the Spectrum Analyzer is accessed via the Instruments menu or the device toolbar and is used to measure signal amplitude versus frequency.

Accessing the Spectrum Analyzer

To place the Spectrum Analyzer in your Multisim workspace:

  • Via the toolbar: Click on the device toolbar and look for the Spectrum Analyzer icon. Drag and drop it onto your circuit workspace .
  • Via the menu: Navigate to Simulate > Instruments > Spectrum Analyzer and select it to place it in your circuit . Once placed, the Spectrum Analyzer behaves like other virtual instruments in Multisim, such as a multimeter.

Connecting the Spectrum Analyzer

  • Connect the input terminal of the Spectrum Analyzer to the signal source (e.g., a function generator or ABM_VOLTAGE source) and the ground terminal to the circuit ground .
  • For audio-range signals, ensure your signal source is configured correctly (e.g., 1 Hz to 20 kHz for typical audio analysis) and that the Spectrum Analyzer's start and end frequencies cover this range .

Configuring Frequency Range

  • Set the Start Frequency to the lowest frequency you want to observe (e.g., 1 Hz for audio signals) and the End Frequency to the highest frequency of interest (e.g., 100 kHz if needed for harmonics), .
  • Use the Set Span or Frequency Span options to define the sweep range. The Spectrum Analyzer uses FFT (Fast Fourier Transform) to display frequency components, so allow sufficient time for the measurement to complete .

Practical Tips

  • The Spectrum Analyzer in Multisim is not limited to high-frequency RF signals; it can measure low-frequency audio signals if the frequency range is set appropriately .
