Step-by-Step Procedure

  1. Install the Cold Connector Begin by opening the cold splice connector and securing the snap rings on both sides. Ensure the middle slot is ready to receive the fiber ends .
  2. Prepare the Fiber Ends Strip approximately 3 cm of the fiber coating from each end using a fiber stripper. Clean the exposed fiber with alcohol to remove any debris or oils .
  3. Cleave the Fiber Use a precision cleaver or cutting knife to cut the stripped fiber to a length of about 1.4 cm. Ensure the cut is clean and perpendicular to the fiber axis to minimize signal loss .
  4. Insert the First Fiber Insert one prepared fiber end into one side of the cold splice connector. Snap it into the middle alignment sleeve and push the side snap ring tightly to secure it .
  5. Prepare and Insert the Second Fiber Repeat the stripping, cleaning, and cleaving process for the second fiber. Insert it into the opposite side of the connector, ensuring it aligns precisely with the first fiber in the central sleeve .
  6. Secure the Connection Push the snap rings on both sides firmly to lock the fibers in place. The fibers should be held securely in the alignment sleeve, allowing light to pass through with minimal loss .
  7. Test the Connection After assembly, test the splice using an OTDR or light source to verify signal continuity and measure insertion loss. Typical attenuation for cold splices ranges from 0.1 to 0.3 dB per connection .
