To install an 800G OSFP transceiver, ensure proper ESD protection, clean fiber connections, and correct orientation before sliding the module into the switch or NIC port.

  3. Orient the Module: Align the transceiver so the connector faces the port correctly. Twin-port OSFP modules use dual MPO-12 connectors for 2x400G channels .
  4. Insert the Module: Slide the transceiver into the cage until the locking pins engage. Avoid forcing the module to prevent damage .
  5. Reconnect Fiber Cables: After insertion, connect the appropriate MPO or LC fiber cables. For SR8 multimode modules, use 8-channel MPO-12 cables; for DR8 single-mode modules, use dual MPO-12 cables .
  6. Cooling Considerations: Use finned-top OSFP shells for air-cooled switches. Flat-top shells are for liquid-cooled or DGX H100 systems .

Post-Installation Verification

  1. Check Indicator Lights: Ensure the green link LED is active, indicating successful connection .
  2. Verify DDM Information: Use the switch or NIC management interface to confirm module status, temperature, and optical power levels .
  3. Protocol Configuration: Configure the switch or adapter for the correct protocol (InfiniBand or Ethernet) and port speed (400G per port for twin-port modules), .
