How to check the aggregation switch configuration

You can view the configuration of an aggregation switch using CLI commands like show lacp internal or show interface port-aggregator, or via the switch's management GUI to inspect LAGs, member ports, and VLAN settings.

Using Command-Line Interface (CLI)

  1. Cisco Switches:
    • For dynamic LACP groups, use the command show lacp internal [ch-id] to display detailed information about the aggregation group, including primary and secondary devices, logical ports, and member port priorities .
    • Ensure that all ports in the aggregation group have consistent configurations such as STP settings, VLANs, speed, duplex, and link type .
  2. Huawei Switches:
    • Use display eth-trunk to view the status of an Eth-Trunk (Huawei's LAG equivalent). This shows member interfaces, aggregation mode (manual or LACP), and load-balancing information .
    • Manual mode requires all member interfaces to have the same Ethernet type, rate, duplex, and flow control settings .
  3. Hikvision Switches:
    • Run show interface port-aggregator <id> to display the aggregated port's status, member ports, bandwidth, and traffic statistics .
    • You can also check the LACP negotiation mode (active or passive) and load-balancing configuration using aggregator-group load-balance commands .
  4. Juniper Switches (Junos OS):
    • Use show interfaces aeX (where aeX is the aggregated Ethernet interface) to view the LAG configuration, member links, link speeds, VLAN tagging, and operational status .
    • LACP status and load distribution across member links are also displayed.

Using Graphical User Interface (GUI)

  1. Axis Switches:
    • Access the switch via AXIS Device Manager or AXIS IP Utility.
    • Log in with the provided credentials, navigate to Advanced > VLANs > Configuration to view VLAN assignments, or use Basic > Topology View to see aggregated links and member ports visually .
    • Ensure to save any configuration changes to the start-up configuration file to retain settings after a reboot .

Key Points to Check

  • Member Ports: Verify which physical ports are part of the aggregation group.
  • Aggregation Mode: Confirm whether the group is static/manual or dynamic/LACP.
  • Load Balancing: Check the load-balancing method (e.g., source/destination MAC or IP).
  • VLAN Configuration: Ensure VLANs are consistently applied across all member ports.
  • Operational Status: Confirm that all member links are up and forwarding traffic. By using these CLI commands or GUI tools, you can fully inspect the aggregation switch configuration, monitor traffic, and troubleshoot any issues with LAGs or port aggregation.
