  • Aqua: Multimode fiber (OM3/OM4), optimized for high-speed data centers .
  • Other colors: Black, green, or violet may indicate armored, plenum, or specialty cables .

2. Examine the Print Legend

Most fiber optic cables have a printed legend along the jacket that provides detailed information:

  • Core and cladding size: e.g., 50/125 µm indicates multimode fiber .
  • Cable type and rating: e.g., OFNR (riser), OFNP (plenum), OSP (outside plant), .
  • Manufacturer and part number: Useful for confirming specifications and compatibility .

3. Identify Individual Fiber Strands

Inside the cable, fibers are color-coded for easy identification:
