Fog Light High Low Beam Switching Module
The fog light high/low beam switching module is typically integrated into the vehicle's lighting control system, often within the Body Control Module (BCM) or LSZ module, located behind the headlight switch near the steering wheel.
Module Location and Function
In many vehicles, especially BMW models, the LSZ (Light Switch Center) module contains the electronics for controlling exterior lights, including fog lights, low beams, and high beams. The LSZ module is mounted behind the headlight switch on the left side of the steering wheel and has a single connector for all inputs and outputs. The headlight switch itself provides inputs to the LSZ for parking lights, headlights, fog lights, and instrument panel dimming, and may include a phototransistor for ambient light detection . For other vehicles, the fog light high/low beam switching function may be handled by the Body Control Module (BCM) or Lighting Control Module, which manages the logic for when fog lights should remain on or turn off when high beams are activated. Proper pin selection on the module's connector is critical, and connections must be fully seated to ensure operation .
Aftermarket and Vehicle-Specific Modules
Some vehicles, particularly GM models, require an all-lights-on module or a fog light harness adapter to allow fog lights to remain on when high beams are activated. These modules are installed inline with the existing wiring harness and can be connected to the high beam, low beam, and fog light circuits. They are often plug-and-play or require tapping into the vehicle's lighting signals .
