Raw Material Preparation and Inspection

The production of optical modules begins with incoming material inspection. Optical components such as lenses, prisms, filters, and housings, as well as electronic components like CMOS sensors and PCBs, are carefully checked for quality and functionality. This includes verifying laser center wavelength, output power, threshold current, and mechanical dimensions to ensure all materials meet strict standards before entering the production line. Anti-static clothing and air shower rooms are used to maintain a dust-free environment critical for high-precision assembly .

Optical Component Fabrication

Optical lenses and other components undergo precision manufacturing processes. For glass lenses, the workflow typically includes rough cutting, sanding, grinding, centering, coating, bonding, and ink marking. Advanced techniques such as laser-based processing—including selective laser-induced etching (SLE) and laser ablation—allow precise shaping, cutting, and surface finishing of lenses and free-form optics in a single clamping operation, achieving low roughness and high dimensional accuracy . Semiconductor Chip Fabrication

Optical modules often integrate semiconductor devices such as pump lasers, gain chips, and photodetectors. Module Assembly

During assembly, optical components and semiconductor chips are integrated with PCBs and housings. Automated die bonders and wire bonders ensure precise alignment, often within a few micrometers, to maintain optical and electrical performance. The housing is critical for mechanical stability, heat dissipation, and environmental protection, and must meet strict dimensional standards .

Testing and Quality Control

After assembly, optical modules undergo aging tests, automated performance testing, and final inspection to remove defective units and ensure reliability. Parameters such as optical signal conversion efficiency, wavelength accuracy, and thermal stability are verified. The “zero-defect warehousing” principle is applied, meaning only components that pass all inspections proceed to final packaging .
