How to Use Campus Intelligent Power Distribution Cabinets

System Overview

Campus intelligent power distribution cabinets integrate multiple devices for monitoring, control, and protection. Typical components include:

  • Industrial control touch screens (e.g., HMIST6500) for system display and control.
  • Ethernet interface intelligent gateways (IFE/EIFE) for connecting outgoing and incoming line circuit breakers.
  • Modbus interface modules (IFM) for connecting molded case circuit breakers.
  • Wireless sensors such as temperature (TH110) and humidity (CL110) with a dedicated gateway (PAS600L) for environmental monitoring.
  • Circuit breakers: frame-type (withdrawable) and molded case (fixed) for load protection.

Installation and Wiring

  1. Topology Diagram: Begin with a clear topology diagram showing all devices, connections, and interfaces. This ensures proper integration of circuit breakers, sensors, and gateways ( ).
  2. Cabling:
    • ULP cables: Required for connecting circuit breakers to interface modules. Molded case breakers require special ULP cables with one RJ45 end and a proprietary connector inside the breaker. Frame-type breakers can use pre-fabricated ULP cables.
    • Ethernet cables: Standard RJ45 connectors for connecting gateways and interface modules.
    • Modbus cables: Connect IFMs to IFE using stacking mounting accessories to avoid external wiring and power supply.
  3. Interface Modules:
    • ULP interface modules are mandatory for all connections.
    • EIFE modules are used for drawer-type breakers, while IFE modules support both drawer-type and fixed breakers.
    • MTZ2 and MTZ3 cabinets include standard ULP modules; MTZ1 requires separate purchase (LV850064SP).

Operation

  • Sequential Power-Up: Turn on devices in sequence to prevent high inrush currents.
  • Monitoring: Use the touch screen to monitor breaker status, environmental sensors, and system alarms.
  • Maintenance: Ensure clear labeling and logical zoning of LV cabinets to reduce troubleshooting time and facilitate future expansion ( ).

Safety and Compliance

  • Ensure all devices comply with local electrical safety standards.
  • Verify proper grounding and isolation before powering the system.
