Overview of OTDR Testing

An Optical Time Domain Reflectometer (OTDR) is a diagnostic tool that injects high-powered light pulses into a fiber optic cable. As the light travels, it encounters events such as connectors, splices, bends, or breaks. These events cause reflections (Fresnel reflections) and backscattering, which the OTDR measures to determine the location, type, and magnitude of losses along the fiber link ( ).
