Choosing the Right Cable Tray

Installation Methods

  • Separation: Keep high-power and low-power cables separated to prevent electromagnetic interference (EMI), .
  • Fill Limits: Do not exceed 40% of the tray cross-section for power cables and 50% for control cables .
  • Grounding: Metallic trays can serve as equipment grounding conductors if compliant with NEC standards .
  • Fire Safety: If trays pass through walls or partitions, use proper fire-stopping measures to prevent fire spread .

Routing to the Room

  1. Plan the tray path from the main distribution point to the room, avoiding prohibited areas like hoistways or enclosed spaces .
  2. Select the tray type based on cable type, weight, and environmental conditions.
  3. Install supports at recommended intervals, ensuring level alignment and secure attachment.
  4. Pull cables carefully, maintaining bend radius and avoiding overcrowding.
