Installing an RCCB involves careful isolation, secure mounting on a DIN rail, correct wiring of live, neutral, and earth connections, and thorough testing to ensure safety.

Safety Precautions

Before starting, turn off the main power supply and verify that the distribution board is completely de-energized using a multimeter or voltage tester . Wear insulated gloves and safety glasses to protect against accidental electric shock. Only qualified electricians should perform this installation.

Step 1: Select and Prepare the RCCB

  • Choose an RCCB with the correct type (AC or A), current rating, sensitivity, and voltage compatible with your load .
  • Ensure you have the necessary tools: insulated screwdrivers, wire strippers, pliers, and a multimeter .

Step 2: Mount the RCCB

  • Open the distribution box and locate the DIN rail.
  • Hook the top clip of the RCCB onto the rail and push the bottom until it snaps securely in place .
  • Confirm the device is firmly attached with no movement.

Step 3: Connect Incoming Wires

  • Connect the main live (phase) wire from the supply to the input terminal marked 'L' or '1'.
  • Connect the main neutral wire to the input terminal marked 'N' .
  • Ensure all connections are tight to prevent loose contacts.

Step 4: Connect Outgoing Wires

  • Connect the load side live wire from the RCCB to the busbar feeding the MCBs or circuits you want to protect.
  • Connect the load side neutral wire to the neutral busbar .
  • If applicable, connect the earth wire to the grounding terminal.

Step 5: Verify and Test

  • Recheck all connections for proper alignment and secure attachment.
  • Reconnect the main power supply.
  • Press the test button on the RCCB to ensure it trips correctly, confirming proper operation .
  • Conduct a visual inspection to ensure no loose wires or damage.

Additional Considerations

  • Label the circuits protected by the RCCB for easy identification.
  • Regularly test the RCCB (typically every 3–6 months) to ensure continued protection.
